2010
Excellence in News Contest

Awards presented at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Springfield on April 30, 2010

Contest Period:
April 1, 2009 – Dec. 31, 2009

Deadline to enter:
The deadline for the 2010 News-Edictorial contest has been changed, to allow an extra week to prepare contest entries, after the February 2 primary election.  THE NEW DEADLINE IS FEBRUARY 12, 2010.  ENTRIES MUST BE RECEIVED IN THE IPA OFFICE BY THAT DATE.

We extended the deadline to accomodate the request of newspapers with busy local primary elections in February.

Dear Editors,

In April of 2010, the Illinois Press Association and Illinois Associated Press Editors Association will host a two-day combined advertising and editorial convention.  This schedule requires some changes in the timing of entries for the IPA news contest.

Because of the change in timing for the conventions, the 2009 Excellence In News contest will reflect a nine-month contest. The missing months will be picked up the following year and from here on out the contest will be run on the calendar year.  Dates for this year’s contest period are April 1 through December 31, 2009.

Entries must be received in the IPA office by Friday, February 5, 2010. They will be judged by members of the Tennessee Press Association.

Don’t miss this opportunity to earn recognition for you and your staff. Winners will be announced Friday, April 30, 2010, during the IPA Awards Luncheon at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Springfield.

Please submit your entries in numerical order with the tally sheet(s) and payment on top. If you are a group entering several newspapers, please fill out individual tally sheets for each newspaper’s entries.  One check covering all your entries is sufficient, but you must identify each individual newspaper’s entries on individual tally sheets if that is how they are to be judged.  IPA requires your photo entries to be submitted on CD in separate files for each class.

If you have any questions about the contest, please telephone the IPA offices at 217-241-1300. We look forward to receiving  your entries!

Mark your calendar.  The first combined Editorial and Advertising convention will be held April 29 – 30, 2010 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Springfield. Plan to attend.
